Information

For optimal experience when viewing 3D media, or viewing 2D media in 3D (if equipped), be sure the following items are noted and adhered to. Refer to your owner’s manual for your TV and/or Blu-ray model for complete details and information on viewing 3D media.

Click here for additional information on how 3D works.

3D TV, Blu-ray Disc player and 3D Content

Whenever possible, it is best to view 3D content on a 3D TV using a 3D compatible Blu-ray Disc player and a 3D Blu-ray disc. This will ensure you have the best combination for the best possible picture quality in 3D.

NOTE:

  • Proper 3D effects or 2D-to-3D conversion results may not be obtained depending on the received 3D content.
  • 3D effect and image quality may vary depending upon content quality and display device capability / functionality and / or settings.
  • There are individual differences in perception of 3D images.

HDMI Cable

Use a high-speed HDMI cable (HDMI 1.4 recommended) when you connect a device such as 3D compatible Blu-ray Disc player or PC to the TV. When you use a standard HDMI cable, 3D images may not be shown correctly.

TV and / or Blu-ray Firmware

Ensure your TV and/or Blu-ray player are upgraded to the latest firmware version. To download and install the latest firmware, refer to the owner's manual for your TV and/or Blu-ray model.

Resolution

3D video from a 3D Blu-ray movie is, technically speaking 1080p (1920 x 1080p.) Due to Frame-Sequential formatting each eye is getting its own full 1080p high-definition image.  3D video from cable and satellite channels, however, will be 960 x 1080 when using side by side formatting, or 1920 x 540 if using top and bottom formatting.

Active / Passive 3D Glasses

Toshiba recommends that you use the correct active or passive 3D glasses designed to work with your model of TV. Toshiba makes two types of 3D TVs that need 3D glasses, Dynamic (Active) and Natural (Passive).  3D glasses should be worn only when viewing 3D content. When viewing 2D content, the 3D glasses are not necessary.

  • Active 3D TV glasses have lenses made of LCD screens. The LCD screens open and close (flash) 120 times per second - which is why the glasses are also called active shutter glasses.
  • Passive 3D glasses have no electronics or active shutter. The passive 3D glasses use a pair of polarized lens for the 3D effect. The polarity of the left and right lens is different so that you will see a different view depending on which lens you are looking through.

GLASSES MODEL NO.                         TYPE                           WORK WITH TV MODEL NO.

FPT-AG01U / FPT-AG02                         Active                           46 / 55WX800U and 46 / 55 / 65UL610U

FPT-P100                                                Passive                           32, 42, 47, and 55TL515U

  • FPT-AG01U active glasses user’s guide.
  • FPT-AG02 active glasses information is included in the owner’s manual for the 46 / 55 / 65UL610U TV.

NOTE:

  • When viewing 3D images, always wear the 3D glasses. Watching 3D images without specified 3D glasses may cause eye strain.
  • Ensure the glasses are worn properly or the image may not be viewed correctly.
  • If you have prescription eye glasses or contact lenses, wear the 3D glasses over them. Watching 3D images without appropriate eyewear may cause eye strain.
  • Fluorescent lighting may cause a flicker while watching 3D content. Reduce the brightness of the fluorescent light if possible, or use another light. It is not recommended to watch 3D TV in a dark room.
  • Do not use the 3D glasses if they are cracked, broken or not working properly.
  • Do not use 3D glasses designed for a 3D computer.

Using More Than One Pair of Glasses with TV

There is no limit to the number of pairs of glasses that can be used. They should be within range of the 3D emitter at the front of the TV (active) and within the proper viewing distance and angle (active / passive). Refer to the owner's manual for your TV model for details.

Battery Charge (Active)

Ensure the batteries in your active 3D glasses are fully charged (FPT-AG02) or new (FPT-AG01U). To charge or replace the batteries in your active 3D glasses, refer to the owner's manual for your TV or Support Bulletin - CHANGING THE BATTERIES ON THE FPT-AG01U 3D GLASSES.

Proper Viewing Angle

Make sure you are within the proper viewing angle from the TV screen. The proper viewing angle depends on your TV model. Refer to the owner's manual for your TV model for viewing angle specifications.

Click Here for more information on proper viewing angle.

For 3D TV models 46WX800U, 55WX800U and Blu-ray Player models BDX3000KU, BDX4150KU, BDX4200KU, BDX5200KU refer to Support Bulletin – VIEWING ANGLE FOR WATCHING 3D TV.

NOTE:

  • Do not wear 3D glasses or watch 3D images from steep angles or while lying down. The 3D effect is lost in these conditions and eye strain may result.
  • It is recommended that the viewer’s eyes and 3D glasses are level with the screen.

IMPORTANT: If you see a double image (crosstalk), your eyes are either too high or too low in relation to the horizontal center of the screen. Adjust your position so that it is closer to the center to avoid eye fatigue and to enjoy optimum 3D effects.

Proper Viewing Distance

Make sure you are within the proper viewing distance from the TV screen. The proper viewing distance depends on your TV model. Refer to the owner's manual for your TV model for viewing distance specifications.
